Polish President Andrzej Duda spoke in favor of sanctions against Russia in connection with the case of Alexei Navalny. His words are quoted by the Financial Times.
The politician noted that it is necessary to increase the sanctions pressure on Russia and limit the possibilities of Gazprom in the European Union (EU). According to him, “then the situation with such matters as the observance of international law, as well as human and political rights in Russia, will begin to move forward,” Duda noted.
Earlier, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian proposed to introduce anti-Russian sanctions in connection with the case of Alexei Navalny. “As for the sanctions, they need to be made really effective. And discussions on this topic will take place tomorrow at the European Council,” he said, implying a meeting of EU foreign ministers, where participants will also discuss the arrest of a Russian.
On the afternoon of January 23 in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities of Russia, uncoordinated actions were held in support of Alexei Navalny, who was arrested on January 18 for repeated violations of the terms of the trial period in the Yves Rocher case.
