Minsk OMON is ready to give a “parity response” to the protesters if unauthorized protests continue in the spring. This was stated by the commander of the OMON GUVD of the Minsk City Executive Committee Dmitry Balaba to STV TV channel, RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
Balaba noted that his squad is preparing to perform tasks “taking into account the changing situation in the world.”
“The activity of our unit is to be in constant combat readiness, so we are always ready. And, believe me, the answer will always be equal,” Balaba warned.
He also denied information that employees are allegedly being fired from his division, calling it fake. “Someone is transferred, someone finds a new place for themselves, someone retires, young people come to their place,” he explained.
Earlier, former presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya predicted a second wave of protests against President Alexander Lukashenko.
In Belarus, for the sixth month, the massive protests that began after the presidential elections on August 9 continue. According to official results, Alexander Lukashenko, who ran for a sixth term, received 80 percent of the vote. The opposition considers the elections to be rigged. Four people were killed in clashes with security forces.
