Aframax class tanker Vladimir Monomakh embarked on its maiden voyage

The first Russian Aframax-class oil tanker, Vladimir Monomakh, built at the Zvezda shipyard, embarked on its maiden voyage. Bunkering with oil products was carried out in Nakhodka. During mooring and loading, the tanker was towed by Rosnefteflot. This was reported to Lente.ru by the press service of Rosneft.

The laying of the tanker took place on 11 September 2018 in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin. “Vladimir Monomakh” was launched in May 2020 ahead of contract terms. In December last year, after successfully completing sea trials, the vessel was handed over to the customer, Rosnefteflot, a subsidiary of Rosneft, specializing in chartering and port support, the implementation of shipbuilding projects and the management of the sea and river fleet.

“Vladimir Monomakh” is the lead ship of the series of tankers of the “Aframax” type. Tankers are designed to transport crude oil and oil products in an unlimited navigation area. Previously, such vessels were not built in Russia.

Aframax-class tankers are called “green”. They are designed to meet high environmental standards. The main and auxiliary power plants can operate on both traditional and environmentally friendly fuel – liquefied natural gas, which complies with the new rules to limit emissions of sulfur oxides and greenhouse gases in the Baltic and North Seas.

The length of the tanker is 250 meters, the width is 44 meters, the deadweight is 114 thousand tons, the speed is 14.6 knots, the ice class is ICE-1A. Comfortable conditions for the crew are created on the ship: there is a sauna, a swimming pool, a gym, each member of the crew has his own cabin, high-speed Internet.

The Zvezda shipbuilding complex is being created on the basis of the Zvezda Far East shipyard by a consortium of investors led by Rosneft on behalf of the Russian President. To date, the shipyard’s portfolio includes 12 Aframax tankers, 10 of which are ordered by Rosnefteflot.

The total order book of the shipyard includes over 50 vessels. The pilot loading of the complex is provided by Rosneft, which has placed an order for 28 vessels at the shipyard. The Zvezda product line will include vessels with a displacement of up to 350 thousand tons, offshore drilling platforms, nuclear icebreakers and ice-class vessels, large-capacity transport vessels, including gas tankers, special ships and other types of marine equipment of any complexity, characteristics and purposes, including including equipment that was not previously produced in Russia due to the lack of necessary launching and hydraulic structures.
