Protests in Tunisia lead to riots and hundreds of detentions

Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Tunis, the capital of the country of the same name, on the anniversary of the revolution known as the “Arab Spring”. The protests ended with hundreds of arrests and clashes with police, Reuters reported.

The demonstrators attacked police officers with improvised means, burned tires and fired fireworks at law enforcement officers. Clashes have been going on for more than one night and have spread to other cities, the police say that more than a thousand people have been arrested.

It is reported that residents of the country are unhappy with the result of the 2011 coup. Although, according to Reuters, he brought democracy to the country, living standards have not improved significantly: Tunisians continue to suffer from unemployment and poor quality of public resources.

In early January, it became known that the leader of the terrorist group Al-Qaeda (banned in Russia) was arrested in the country. He supplied the Tunisian branch of al-Qaeda with funds, weapons and ammunition.
