The Kremlin reacted to the introduction of new US sanctions against the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. In response, Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov recalled that the Russian side still hopes for the finalization of the project, RIA Novosti reports.
Earlier it became known that the United States imposed sanctions against the Fortuna vessel, which is involved in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, and its owner, the KBT-Rus company. The list also includes the tankers “Maxim Gorky” and “Sierra”, which, according to Washington, sail under the Russian flag.
Almost at the same time, two more companies left the gas pipeline project: the German Bilfinger SE, which was engaged in the supply and commissioning of technological control and safety systems for the operation of the pipeline, and the Swiss Zurich Insurance Group. “We were in close contact with the US State Department regarding the discussion of sanctions on Nord Stream 2, and we have terminated all our [insurance] coverage that is subject to the sanctions,” a representative of the latter told TASS.
