Two environmental officers appointed by President-elect Joe Biden in the US presidential administration consider systemic racism to be one of the important causes of negative climate change. Their statements were recalled by The Daily Wire.
Maggie Thomas, who will be in charge of staff in the Department of Domestic Climate Policy, drew up a plan under which the state would be required to spend trillions of dollars to regulate this area. She proposed the creation of a “nationwide initiative on environmental justice” that will ensure equality, fairness and inclusiveness of government policies in this area.
Cecilia Martinez, who will take over as “Director of Environmental Justice”, was on the US House of Representatives Climate Commission. In 2019, the commission issued a report on related issues.
In it, Martinez wrote that “systemic racism remains a serious problem on the path to a healthy planet” and called for a focus on environmental justice.
It is noted that climate problems along with issues of social justice will be central to the new American administration. Biden is expected to return the country to the Paris climate agreement on the first day of his rule
