Gazprom is confident in the effectiveness of the new Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline, which is to pass through Mongolia. President Vladimir Putin was assured of this by the head of the company, Alexei Miller, quoted by Interfax.
“Even now, according to the preliminary feasibility study, we can say for sure that this is a technically feasible project and cost-effective,” Miller said, adding that a feasibility study for the project will be ready in the first quarter of this year.
Design and survey work has already begun on Russian territory. “We are also in direct video conferencing with our Chinese partners and in contact with our Mongolian partners,” Miller added.
Putin approved a new gas pipeline with a capacity of up to 50 billion cubic meters per year in March 2020, it will go to western China through Mongolia. A dedicated company is responsible for the implementation of the project. It will be established in Mongolia. It will develop a feasibility study for the main gas pipeline project. Construction began last fall.
The first section of the Power of Siberia gas pipeline is currently in operation, construction of which began in 2014 and was completed in 2019. This route is designed to deliver gas to Russian consumers in the Far East and China. In December 2020, a year has passed since the launch. It turned out that during this time 3.84 billion cubic meters had been pumped through it. At the same time, the plans for deliveries amounted to at least five billion.
