British doctors have predicted a new sexually transmitted disease epidemic for the country. The Daily Star writes about it.
President of the Sexual Health Association John McSorley noted that during the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus, the number of patients who go to doctors for the treatment of gonorrhea and syphilis has decreased by 85 percent. However, according to him, the number of infected has not decreased.
McSorley stated that social distancing will be the main preventive measure, as with COVID-19. If symptoms are present, the specialist recommended to see a doctor and begin treatment without delay, in order to avoid future collapse of the healthcare system due to the spread of gonorrhea and syphilis.
Earlier, the head physician of the Moscow hospital №71 and TV presenter Alexander Myasnikov said that the world was covered by an obesity epidemic, which is invisible, but much more dangerous than the coronavirus. According to the doctor, almost 40 percent of the world’s population is overweight. Myasnikov stressed that when people develop obesity, excess weight further leads to diabetes, heart attacks, strokes and cancer.
