Release of minimalistic distribution kit Alpine Linux 3.12

Alpine Linux 3.13 , a minimalistic distribution built on the basis of the Musl system library and the BusyBox set of utilities. The distribution has increased security requirements and is built with SSP (Stack Smashing Protection) protection. OpenRC is used as init system, its own apk package manager is used for package management. Alpine is used to build official Docker container images. Bootable iso images (x86_64, x86, armhf, aarch64, armv7, ppc64le, s390x, mips64) are prepared in five versions: standard (130 MB), with a kernel without patches (150 MB), extended (570 MB) and for virtual machines (40 MB).

In the new release:

  • Imaging for cloud environments has started.
  • The ifupdown-ng utility is offered instead of the ifupdown command from busybox.
  • Improved support for wireless networks in configuration scripts.
  • A new PHP 8.0 branch is included.
  • When compiling Node.js, the “-O2” flag is used instead of “-Os” (optimized for performance, not size).
  • Added initial support for cloud-init configuration.
  • Updated package versions: Linux kernel 5.10.7, musl 1.2 Busybox 1.32.1, GCC 10.2.1 Git 2.30.0, Knot DNS 3.0.3, MariaDB 10.5.8, Node.js 14.15.4, Nextcloud 20.0. 4, PostgreSQL 13.1, QEMU 5.2.0, Xen 4.14.1, Zabbix 5.2.3, ZFS 2.0.1.
