German environmental organizations Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) and the Union for the Conservation of Nature and Biodiversity (NABU) were able to delay the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline for a long time. According to the head of the Federal Office for Maritime Shipping and Hydrography (BSH) Karin Kamman-Klippstein, the case may drag on until 2022. Her words are quoted by Deutsche Welle.
Earlier, DUH and NABU protested BSH’s permission to build the gas pipeline, which could slow down its laying for an indefinite period.
It is noted that environmental organizations have not yet provided the necessary justification for the appeal. According to Kamman-Klippstein, the deadline for submitting this justification has not been set, and in the event of a negative BSH decision, environmentalists can appeal against it.
Earlier, the Union for Conservation of Nature and Biodiversity (NABU) and Deutsche Umwelthilfe were able to delay the resumption of the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. They filed a complaint against the decision of the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency, which allowed the continuation of work in the exclusive economic zone of Germany.
On Tuesday, January 19, Washington for the first time moved from threats to imposing restrictive measures. They included Fortuna and its owner, the Russian micro-enterprise KBT-Rus LLC.
The start date of the gas pipeline operation has now been postponed for another six months – to the summer of 2021. Even if the pipe is completed, certification and insurance issues remain unresolved. Norwegian DNV GL and Swiss Zurich Insurance Group refused to cooperate under threat of US sanctions.
