The United States decided to remain a member of the World Health Organization (WHO), which the country was supposed to leave by early summer in accordance with the order of the former US President Donald Trump. This was stated by the adviser to the President of the United States on combating COVID-19 Anthony Fauci, quoted by The Hill.
“I am honored to announce that the United States will remain a member of the World Health Organization,” Fauci said at an online meeting of the WHO Executive Board. The adviser to the American president noted that Joe Biden has already signed the relevant documents.
The head of the organization, Tedros Adanom Ghebreyesus, responded by saying that WHO is one big family, and was glad for the decision of the United States to remain a member.
Joe Biden was inaugurated on January 20, he became the 46th President of the United States. During the first hour at the White House, Biden reversed a number of decisions of his predecessor. In particular, he stopped construction of a wall on the southern border, the promise of which was key to Trump’s campaign. The new US president also suspended the deportation of illegal migrants for the next 100 days and lifted Trump’s ban on citizens of some Muslim countries from entering the country. In addition, Biden signed a decree returning the United States to the Paris Climate Agreement.
