Able to complete the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, the Akademik Chersky pipelayer has arrived at the German port of Wismar. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the data of the global vessel positioning system Marine Traffic. The vessel had been near Kaliningrad for more than a week before.
Another vessel – “Fortuna” – is located in the area of the unfinished section of “Nord Stream-2” south of the Danish island of Bornholm, it arrived in this area on Friday, January 22. The barge, according to the Danish authorities, is supposed to lay pipes in the waters of the kingdom. So far, Fortuna has completed 2.6 kilometers of trail in shallow waters off the coast of Germany.
“Academician Chersky” left the port of Nakhodka 11.5 months ago. He arrived in Kaliningrad on May 3, since then the ship regularly moves between Germany and Russia, but does not take part in the construction.
On Tuesday, January 19, the United States for the first time implemented a sanctions threat against the companies involved in the construction of the Russian gas pipeline. The barge Fortuna and its Russian owner were hit. Commissioning of Nord Stream 2 was planned for late 2020 or early 2021. We are currently talking about the summer of 2021.
