Residents of England who tested positive for coronavirus were offered a lump sum of 500 pounds (more than 51 thousand rubles at the current exchange rate) for self-isolation. Local authorities are considering this decision amid the spread of the pandemic, reports The Guardian.
A recent government poll showed that only 17 percent of Britons with symptoms of the virus go for tests. Others fear that the result will be positive and they will have to stop going to work. Only one in four respondents reported self-isolation, with 15 percent going to work as usual, even when sick.
The authorities also propose to provide the police with access to medical data and thus fight the violation of quarantine. In total, these measures could cost £ 453 million. Another option is being discussed: introduce a nationwide self-test in the country so that those who test negative can return to work.
At the beginning of January 2021, the UK introduced the third national quarantine. The reason for this was the spread of a new strain of coronavirus. Since January 5, all schools in the country have switched to remote work, and since January 6, a ban on leaving home came into force, with the exception of good reasons: going for groceries and essentials, as well as to get medical care or play sports. According to the mayor of London, a critical situation has developed in the capital.
