Russia is preparing to extend missile treaty with United States

Russia has prepared and can, without delay, enter into negotiations on the extension of the missile treaty with the United States. This was stated by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Maria Zakharova, her words were published on the website of the department.

“We are ready, without delay, to make contact through the foreign ministries of Russia and the United States for the earliest execution of an agreement on the extension of the START Treaty for five years. This must be done as soon as possible, given that it expires on February 5, 2021 “, – quotes the Foreign Ministry as saying Zakharova.

Earlier on Friday, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said that the US authorities are in favor of extending the missile treaty with the Russian Federation for five years.

The Pentagon, in turn, noted that Russia’s compliance with this treaty served well the national interests of the United States.

The Federation Council supports the intention of the American authorities, provided that the text of the agreement does not change.

The Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty was signed in 2010 by the presidents of Russia and the United States – Dmitry Medvedev and Barack Obama. It expires in February 2021.
