All 27 European Union (EU) member states have agreed to mutually recognize antigenic rapid tests and PCR test results for coronavirus infection. This is stated in a statement made at the end of the online summit, which took place on January 21.
It is noted that this is essential for facilitating cross-border movement, tracing cross-border contacts and treatment.
The EU countries have also agreed to share data on coronavirus through a special digital platform, which will include a single list of rapid tests for COVID-19, as well as standards for their use.
The message notes that the decision will help mitigate the consequences of the spread of coronavirus, as well as contribute to the smooth functioning of the EU internal market.
