A patient in Germany died after re-infection with coronavirus, this happened for the first time in the country, Tagesschau reports.
The authorities of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg confirmed that the deceased, 73-year-old man, managed to get sick with COVID-19 in April and recovered, and in December he contracted the second time and on January 11, died of complications on the lungs.
Doctors reported that the man had a long asymptomatic phase, and that this time he infected his wife. There are suspicions that its re-infection may be associated with a mutation of the virus, but it is impossible to prove or disprove it, since its analyzes made in April have not survived.
As noted at the Robert Koch Institute, re-infection is an extremely rare case, and usually with it, the disease is milder than the first time. The publication, however, reminds that the death of a patient who is ill for the second time is not news: earlier similar cases occurred in the Netherlands, Israel and Hong Kong.
On January 12, it was reported that more than 50 people in the Rostov region were re-infected with coronavirus
