Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov announced the country’s readiness for a dialogue with the United States on the Treaty on Measures to Further Reduce and Limit Strategic Offensive Arms between Countries (START, unofficially called START-3). He spoke about this in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Antonov noted that there are still chances of reaching an agreement before the deadline expires. “The ball is on Washington’s side – we are waiting for constructive proposals,” he added.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry proposed to US President Joe Biden to extend the missile treaty for five years without changes or preconditions.
The Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty was signed in 2010 by the presidents of Russia and the United States – Dmitry Medvedev and Barack Obama. The agreement came into force in 2011 and expires in February 2021.
