Hundreds of restaurants and cafes closed in the center of Moscow in 2020, writes RBC with reference to a study by the JLL agency.
In total, 208 catering establishments closed on the main shopping streets of the capital last year, which is 35 percent more than in 2019. The share of catering establishments among closed enterprises in Moscow amounted to 46 percent.
According to the authors of the study, catering establishments suffered more than other industries from the restrictions regime introduced in the spring of 2020. Amid uncertainty and sharply declining revenues, the owners made a decision to close, and the owners of the premises terminated the lease agreements.
At the same time, the greatest damage was done to the points located in the city center, since they account for the main tourist flow and demand from local residents.
At the same time, 294 trade organizations opened in Moscow in 2020 (25 percent less than a year earlier) against 455 that closed.
