According to the agency, the politician accepted an offer to stay at the residence last week. In the building opposite the White House, guests of honor of the President and the US government stay. Since 1942, Blair House has hosted visiting foreign heads of state and government, as well as members of their delegations. In addition, the new head of state is traditionally lodged there for several days before his inauguration and entry into the White House.
Biden’s inauguration is scheduled for January 20. In particular, Vice President Mike Pence is invited to the event. At the same time, Biden called the decision of the current American leader Donald Trump not to attend the event, as he said earlier, as good. Increased security measures have been taken in Washington in connection with the inauguration. Much of the city center, adjacent to the White House and the Congress, is closed to traffic. Capitol Hill has been cordoned off and access is restricted.
On January 19, Trump’s wife Melania refused to invite Biden’s wife, Jill, to the White House hospitality tour. Thus, she broke a tradition that had lasted for more than 70 years: before the inauguration, the wife of the outgoing president received the wife of the new head of state in the family wing of the residence, showed her the living quarters and told her about life in the White House.
